Have you ever debated with developers over whether a particular test case failure was really a bug?

It sometimes happens that, a test team when is discussing defects with the development team, the discussions turn into debate and hot exchanges.

This happens basically coz, the test team as finds more and more bugs in the s/w, they develop a feeling that the development team is not performing up to the mark. This feeling starts to show up as they discuss controversial bugs and the discussions go on for a long time and people start to loose patience. Also that, the developers sometimes develops a feeling that the testing team being a non technical team is pointing out the quality of their work.

All this can be managed and both teams can be calmed down by a superior person in the team whose responsibility is… probably to coordinate the activities of both development and testing.

At our work place, to avoid such debets or hatred arguements, the test team just tell the development team to write their comments and assign the defect to their lead or PM so that they can imply their managerial decision over it.
