How to assign the datatable values to a local variable in a script

Can any one of you please let me know how to assign the datatable values to a local variable in a script. I tried with

dim x,x=DataTable("ColumnName",dtGlobalSheet)

I am also looking for syntax to assign output values to a variable rather than to datasheets.

Your help on this is greatly appreciated.
