Media Recovery and ResetLogs
question asked by visitor my database is in archivelog on mode. I have taken closed/cold backup of my oracle database at time t1
all control files, datafiles and online redolog files are copied to some tape. Then at time t5 i lost everything on my running database , all control files, all online redo log files, all datafiles. But i didnt lost the archived redo log files from time t1 to t5, there are 8 archived redologs (say arc1...arc8) generated between time t1 and t5. Now, i copied back to disk, the old control files, old datafiles , old online redolog files from the tape, that were as of time t1. Then i did startup mount recover database using backup controlfile; it prompted me for the first archived redo log arc1 , i accepted , then after some time it prompted me for arc2 , i accepted, then when it prompted for arc3, i type cancel and pressed enter. Now i did, alter database open resetlogs; but says, that a file xyz needs media recovery. The questions are:- 1- we know that we can rollforward (incomplete recovery) our database to any point in time between t1 and t5 if we have archived redo log files, then why its saying that a file need media recovery. 2- does a database is open able with resetlogs after application of any archived log files between arc1 and arc2, what i mean is that , is the database openable with resetlogs after each applied archived log file? hope i made my question clear. |
