justification for the right to left associativity of conditional operator

Can anyone please tell me the explanation for the right to left associativity of the conditional operator. Associativity means that whenever a choice is to be made amongst the operands of a conditional operator that side operand is solved first which has no ambiguity. Now if "?:" , this operator has a right to left associativity then why the resulst of this expression is ab. Printf("a")?printf("b")rintf("c")?printf("d")rintf("e");
