    What is Android? What's its significance over other OS of cell phones?

    Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications.It's maintained by Google, and comes in a few different versions.

    Significance is that it has features like:
    > SQLite for structured data storage
    > Media support for common audio, video, and still image formats (MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AAC, AMR, JPG, PNG, GIF)
    > GSM Telephony (hardware dependent)
    > GPS, compass, and accelerometer (hardware dependent)
    > Rich development environment including a device emulator, tools for debugging, memory and performance profiling, and a plugin for the Eclipse IDE
    > Application framework enabling reuse and replacement of components
    > Dalvik virtual machine optimized for mobile devices
    >Integrated browser based on the open source WebKit engine
    > Optimized graphics powered by a custom 2D graphics library; 3D graphics based on the OpenGL ES 1.0 specification (hardware acceleration optional)

    Android is a Linux-based operating system for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. It is developed by the Open Handset Alliance, led by Google, and other companies.Android has a large community of developers writing applications that extend the functionality of the devices.Android OS is very good technology wise. It also allows for faster upgrade cycle, more apps, more ways to use the technology.

    Significance is that it has features like:

    Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middle ware and key applications. The Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android platform using the Java programming language.

    I am creating an android operating system e-mail customer program with sasl verification. For this I am using k9-mail e-mail customer free. Now I want to add sasl verification with this k9-mail. Is it possible? If yes provide me some examples regarding this would be excellent.
