i wud like to know hw imp is extra curricular activites in interviews.....i am the student secretary of my college and i have my placements dis yr......so hw effective will this be for me as a fresher and hw shud i portray it in y CV or in the HR interview......

Well, when it comes to IT industry, extracurricular activities won't pay much unless they are related. For example, if you have done an exceptionally good project or if you had presented a good whitepaper or if you have won any communication (english) related compitition etc, they might count.

But at the end of the day, these extra curricular activities count only when they have to decide between two people who - according to the recruiters- are equally good. Otherwise, everyone will have to write an aptitude test, everyone needs to undergo GD and all the other rounds.

Acadamic abilities are rated far above extra-curricular activities in most of the companies.

So, give highest priority for your studies, all these extra curricular "thingy"s can be given lower priority.

coz my 10th stands @ 75%, 12th @ 80% and rite nw my engg cgpa stands at 9.2..............plzzz do reply abt wht cmpanies i can aim 4......(i am tryin for TCS, patni and HP).......and is it always advisable to get placed in ur campus rather than outside???

Ya ,ALL companies ask 10th as well as 12th marks. But u r ofcourse in safe state ,since u have good percentges in 10th and 12th. U r aiming for compnies like TCS etc,so i would like to give u brief idea of their reqt.

TCS 60%(10,12 and b.Tech)
Patni 55% in B.tech and 60% in 10th and 12.

Even wipro asks for 60% only.

U percentage is far ahead.! so no need to worry!


Its better if u r selected in "oncampus",simply coz less competition

No COmpany ever ask ur individual sub marks. Every company simply asks ur aggregate,whether in CLass 10,12th or BE.so need not worry for ur 59% in maths.

TCS is a very good company.But with ur percentage u can take ALMOST every company's exams.

Extra curricular activites do take up a significant part in interview. This gives a picture about the involvement of a candidate.Do place about yourself and what is the extra curricular activity you have specialised in briefly and I would guide you surely on the same.

hi....thank you very much for the interest shown nancy.......i am the student secretary for the technical wing of my college and also am the IEEE secretary of the IEEE chapter in my city and during this course have organised many events spanning days and also many colleges......does dat help me in placements???

yeah, it will surely help you to great extent, since as you said you are secretary and all! Certificates,or involvement in good activities(like yours),include them in your resumes and you will always have upper hand over others!

Try to participate more in debates and all!


But remember no compromise with studies!Afterall at the end of the day, it is studies which counts! So extra curricular activities are good, but only if you are good in studies(which you seems to be)
