Re: Testing without knowing the Project!

Yes. It is possible to test without knowing a project.

We need to implement 3 of the Adhoc testing techniques; Exploratory Testing (ET), Pair Testing (PT) and Buddy Testing (BT).

ET- A test engineer tries to use and simultaneously understand all the features of the project in an attempt to test them. A test engineer is able to do this depending on the past experience, discussions in the team, any kind of documentation available and getting information on project domain from global sources.

PT- A junior test engineer is accompanied by a senior test engineer for the knowledge sharing.

BT- A test engineer is accompanied by a member of the projects development team for knowledge sharing. This could be during development process or during testing process.

Though these methods do not guarantee a 100% complete testing process, it is a testing approach when no knowledge about the project is available.

Re: Testing without knowing the Project!

Hi sutnarcha,

Is these Adhoc testing techniques will be useful at any instance in companies.

Is there any testing techniques other than these 3 (ET,BT & PT) for Adhoc testing.

Re: Testing without knowing the Project!

I am not clear with what u mean by ‘any instance’.

If u mean any project, then YES, the adhoc testing techniques are useful for any project if we have no complete information of the project or no enough time to complete planned testing on the project.

And yes, there is another type of Adhoc testing technique called Monkey Testing (MT) . MT is to test only selected (main) functionalities of the s/w build and not all of them.
