    hi friend,

    Configuration testing:

The process to determine the portability of the software product

    Compatibility Testing:

The process of testing to determine the interoperability of a software product

    Thanks,

    Re: Difference

    Lets make this Simpler,

Configuration Testing : Testing the product with multiple configurations. For instance an application is built as per specification to run on 1GB Ram, 4GB Hard Disk Space required and other system specs.

Even More simpler... Deploying the application which is built to work on Windows XP against varying windows Operating systems would also qualify as Configuration testing. As long as you stick to the Windows family, but the moment you try to change the Operating system it becomes Compatibility testing.

When we test the same application with different system combinations of Ram, HDD and other probable system specs, this is called Configuration Testing. For Java based apps, testing it against different JVM versions, different Java Runtime settings etc are other examples.

Compatibility Testing : Software being tested across different platforms other than what has been prescribed as standard.

Example : An web application is programmed to work on Internet Explorer. Running the application instance against Netscape Navigator, FireFox, Mozilla are all examples of Browser Compatibility Testing.

    Cheers,

Compatability testing is also known as protability testing.
Compatability testing means testing team verifies build run on customer expected platforms or not.

Configuration testing is also known as H/W compatability testing.
Configuration testing means testing team verifies build supports H/W technology devices or not.
