Letters of Oracle

This is a discussion on Letters of Oracle within the Oracle forums, part of the Databases category; What does the numbers and letters represent after the name Oracle? I'm guessing that the numbers are the editions but what about the letters like in 9i and 10g?...

Re: Letters of Oracle

The numbers denote versions of ORACLE.
Well, for 'i' in 8i or 9i I dont know but
'g' in 10g stands for "GRID" i.e. Grid computing across the network.
You can create clusters in network to distributed administration using grid computing.

Patrick.

Re: Letters of Oracle

So I'm correct with my guess that it is the editions or versions of Oracle. I hope someone could answer what the "i" stands for.

But for us to have an idea, what is the difference between versions with "i" from versions with "g"?
