Re: DHCP and DNS

Hi,

DHCP assings IP addresses to the needed computers in a network dynamically.

But...

DNS is Domain Naming System(Service) It is system for naming computers and network services that is organized into a hierarchy of domains.

DNS naming is used in TCP/IP networks, such as Internet, to locate computers and services through user friendly names.

For further information ,better to refer networking books or sites..

Thanks & Regards,
Riju

DHCPynamically Host Configuration Protocal. suppose in a large company we can't give static IP address(we can't sit on each system and give address). using DHCP we can give IP address dynamically.
DNS: Domain Name service- it resolve ip address. we can't remember all sytem ip addresses in Network. if we install DNS using dcpromo.

Hai,

DHCP is a automatically assign IP in your client. I mean It full-fil your client request. It works as per client request. It follows this process Discover, offer, request, acknowledgment.

DNS:- Domain naming system is a resole IP to name & name to IP. It means DNS convert google dot com to IP address & IP address to Google dot com. Its work according to your zone. (Forward & reverse zone)
