Impact of multiple business groups on defining customers

We have two instances in 11i version. we want to consolidate into R12. question is should we go with multiple BG's or single BG while consolidating. also what is the impact of multiple BG's on customer and supplier consolidation

Any pointers in this regard are much appreciated
