how to start a project in j2EE?

I am in 5th sem of MCA.I have selected on line library infm.sys under tgmc of IBM.I know core java,oracle,html.It was mentioned that project must be with
ajax,tivoli,j2EE,java,Db2,rational etc.

Tell me plz what I need to know initially to start the project?
