Smile Cable and Pillars Problem

Hi guys,

An electricity cable, 16 meters in length, hangs between two pillars that are both 15 meters high.

The ends of the cable are attached to the tops of the pillars.

At its lowest point, the cable hangs 7 meters above the ground.

Then..............

How far the two pillars apart ?????

Try........

Best of Luck.........

Re: Tricky problem..........

pillar height = 15 meters

cable length = 16 meters

lowest point = 7 meters from ground

The sentence "The ends of the cable are attached to the tops of the pillars" is important here.

pillar height - lowest point = 15 - 7 = 8 meters

so up and down it should need 8 * 2 = 16 meters

so the distance between two pillars = cable length - 16 meters = 0 meters.

So Both pillar stand next to each other...

Re: Tricky problem..........

Hi friend,

The distance b/w the 2 pillars is 0.

Actually it's a tricky question.

Congrats & keep it up.

Regards,
Riju.
