Smile Escalator....

Hi Friends,

You walk upwards on an escalator, with a speed of 1 step per second.

After 50 steps you are at the end.

You turn around and run downwards with a speed of 5 steps per second.

After 125 steps you are back at the beginning of the escalator.

Question:

How many steps do you need if the escalator stands still?

Try................

Regards,

Riju

Lightbulb Re: Escalator....

Good Puzzle:
Assumption:
The escalator is moving upward with a speed of 1 step per second.

1) Now you are going up with a speed of 1 step per second and escalator too is going upward with a speed of 1step per second. So ideally if it were still you would had to climb 100 steps

2) You can confirm this by:
Now you are coming down at a speed of 5 steps per second, so you should have covered 100 steps, but at the same time escalator is moving upward at a speed of 1 step per second, and it took you additional 25 steps to come down because when you were taking 5 steps, you were actually taking only 4 steps. So 100/4= 25. That's the reason you had to take additional 25 steps.

Plz confirm the ans as you did earlier, rijus.

Thanks.
