Can explain how we can do performance testing for backend using loadrunner?

You can test any Thick client application using db like oracle,sybase etc using the oracle 2-tier protocol or odbc protocol of loadrunner.

If you want to do standalone db testing - you can still od the testing using toad or sql plus using the same protocols as above
