Re: testing web application manually

Hi,
Testing a web application is very intresting..First we have to login to the web application say for example Gmail... and then browse through the links in the page and check if it directs you to the correct page on clicking the link.

You can write positive as well as negative test cases for this.
Do you want me to tell how to write a test case or specially test cases for the web application.

Kindly let me know so that i can help you.

Regards,
sunitha

Re: testing web application manually

hi folks,
for web application testing first start with GUI testing.
then go for Functional testing and navigation testing.
For these you have to cover positive and -ve test cases also.

-ve test cases in the sense verify your password with different values.
for ex. your password min is 6 letters. then try with 5 letters.
Use max+1 scenario also.
try with case sensitive scenario.
try with session timing scenario.

these are the main examples... you can try with no of scenarios......

Cheers,
Bhaskar kumar

Re: testing web application manually

Lets take an example of a site that have Home, about us etc tabs.
now you have take about us tab so first you will check the appearence of it.thatn you will test its functionality that is it taking you to the about us page or not.
Many a time the client ask to check the browser compatibility so u need to rum the web sit on various browsers IE,firfox etc.

Re: testing web application manually

Hi friends,

At present i am testing a web application manually and i have to write test cases for Usability and GUI. I know how to write a test case. But is there a difference between test case template for GUI & usability and Functional testing?

I don't have any documents regarding website. I was given a Web site to test it manually.
I have listed out the mistake made in Web Design and some defect regarding functionality.
I am facing problem in differentiating between GUI & Usability. Can any one plz send me a sample test case for GUI & Usability.

Re: testing web application manually

Hello friends,
For the web application what can be the different scenarios for security testing? Please reply.

And also in many of the web application requirements, for some specific fields like phone field, email field, & fax, username, password validations are not provided. What should be the standard validation for these fields?

Re: Testing Web Application Manually

swathi,

These fields should be mandatory.

I am sharing some validations here

The phone number field should accept +, - and numbers only and should not accept alphabetics

The fax field should accept - and numbers only and should not accept alphabetics

Email field: while entering the email the system should check for @ for ex: test at test dot com . If there is no at symbol then alert message should be thrown.

Username the apt input should be given to username field.
Password : should be masked

if you provide right username and password the system should navigate to the home page else alert message should be thrown to indicate the user to enter the apt username and password.

Thanks
Deepa

Re: Testing Web Application Manually

Thanks, & sorry that I'm too.. late to reply.
Actually the US ph. no. are displayed in the form XXX-XXX-(XXXX), which contains the '(' ')' char so should we allow these characters also?

2ndly should the password allow space characters? if no then why not?
Or it is application specific?

If you have rights please read the requirement specification, read and analyze what was the client request and then judge whether required or not required.

Thanks
Deepa
