Version means different build tester gets during testing process.Every new build is new version of previous one.

In the s/w engineering process cycle, there are a lot of different builds that get exchanged between the dev and test teams. Different modules are developed, tested, and newly built after resolving the bugs. Each time a build is sent to a test team, a new version is created. When the number of versions exceeds a manageable limit, it becomes difficult to remember which build is latest and which is old.
 Versioning is to maintain different versions of the build and applying correct testing on the correct version of the build and modifying the correct version of the build to resolve bugs.
