Re: macintosh

Hello

MAc cannot be installed on machine which has WIN XP. Apple provides MAC only on its Hardware i.e MAC cannot be installed on DELL H/W. Only Apple H/W works.
No MAC does not support exe files . However there are executables in other forms. exe is a WINDOWS only format. .command is Unix executable. MAC has DMG's which help a lot in installation

Re: macintosh

[B]Dell confirmed on Wednesday plans to offer Linux pre-installed on select desktop and notebook systems, beyond its current Linux-based servers and Precision workstations. The decision comes after feedback on its IdeaStorm site and a survey that garnered over 100,000 responses.

No specific timeframe was given for the expanded Linux plans, although the company said in a blog posting that it will provide an update in the coming weeks regarding the effort. It will detail "information on which systems we will offer, our testing and certification efforts, and the Linux distribution(s) that will be available," Dell said, adding that, "The countdown begins today."

Re: macintosh

About this mac about this mac window found in mac os x 10.4
about this mac is a menu item found in the apple menu. Its purpose is to provide a quick and basic overview of your system. Functions
you can click on the buttons to get a more detailed view of your computer using system profiler or check for available software updates. Clicking on the version number will show the installed os x build number and another click will show your machine's serial number. Prior to mac os x this window was named "about this computer" and contained ram statistics. The information used to be vital in deciding memory allocations, finding programs with memory leaks and dealing with ram fragmentation.

Re: macintosh

Regarding Memory Leaks, u can use leaks (command line tool).Shark is also used. However I am not sure about RAM Fragmentation as I believe there is an algo in MAC OS that minimizes disk fragmentation to almost zero level.
This algo works as a nice process with least priority and comes in effect if the system startup time > 3 minutes
