"Netscape announces the availability of JavaScript 1.5, both embedded within Netscape 6 and as free, open source, embeddable JavaScript engine components implemented in C and Java. JavaScript 1.5 includes powerful new features like getters and setters, control over length of numeric values to avoid rounding anomalies, full support for Perl 5 regular expression syntax, and robust exception handling. Netscape JavaScript 1.5 is also the first JavaScript implementation with full support for the ECMA-262, edition 3 international standard for JavaScript."

As of 2008, the latest version of the language is JavaScript 1.8. Prior to it was 1.6 and further prior was 1.5
