Role of Business Analyst

I wish to know.
1. What is the role of Business Analyst
2. What type of business scenario he has to use. Example please.
3. Wether Business Analysts should know programming also in his domain

1. The term Business Analyst (BA) is used to describe a person who practices the discipline of business analysis. A business analyst or "BA" is responsible for analyzing the business needs of clients to help identify business problems and propose solutions.

A business analyst (BA)is responsible from finding out from the business what its requirements are with to:

* improving business performance
* automating parts of the business

Good BAs should be able to use the following modeling techniques:

* Function Modeling
* Process Modeling
* Procedure Modeling
* Data Modeling

Too often the task of Data Modeling is done by a separate set of Data Analysts and this causes a disconnect in most projects.

A BA need not know programming languages or design techniques but knowledge of these will give a more complete view of the overall development cycle.
