there are 5 types of ip address they are class A,B,C,D,E

network is divided in five classes

class A consist of 32 bits in which first 8 bit is a network and rest is host part

class B consist of 32 bits in which first 16 bit is a network part and rest is host part

class C consist of 32 bits in which first 24 bit is network part and rest is host part

Class D is used for multicast address

class E is reserved for research

Class B 128-191
Class C 192-223
Class D 224-239 -> Multicast
Class E 240-254 -> Experimental
127.x.x.x used for loopback
Private IP addresses range s non routable over the Internet :
Class A: 10.x.x.x
Class B : 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
Class C : 192.168.x.x
(0<=x<=255)

AIPA - Automatic IP Address - When due to some reason DHCP service not working for client machine then it will go for APIPA, range is 169.254.0.1 through 169.254.255.254.
