Original Dress Measurement

To get a dress for her marriage a girl sends her friend to the market to get her a wedding dress, she tells her friend to buy a dress of x feet & y inches. But her friend gets confused & buys a dress of y feet & x inches. If the dress her friend bought is 5/8th of the original dress, What was the orignal measurement?

Original dress =x ft y inch=12x+y inch
He bought =yft x inch=12y+x inch
So, 12y+x=5/8*(12x+y)
or, x/y=7/4

So, original dress=7ft 4inches

12(x)+y=5/8(12y+x)
on solving we get 7y=4x

therfor 7*4=4*7 only will satisfy the equation hence y=4 and x=7
