Corona Effect is the high voltage electric discharge phenomenon that can be observed between two transmission lines or for that matter any two lines carrying electricity. This occurs generally when the two wires are very close to each other.

This effect is generally reduced by the use of hollow conductors, improved grading in cables and increasing the distance between the current carrying conductors.
