For testing any application, we are using FRS, SRS documents as a base. Many times FRS has use case diagrams to explain how the whole system or any particular transaction works with end users or Business users. (Use case diagrams)

These diagrams can be designed using UML. Rational Rose is one of the tools in which you can design UML diagrams. 

So UML diagrams will try to explain the AUT in pictorial format.
