Neutral CT is generally used on earth connector connecting
the earth or ground & the star point of a Generator or
Transformer or reactor(generally we can say electrical machines).
Neutral CT is selected based on the value of designed the
earth fault current which is supposed to return to
transformer or generator star point from earth.

A neutral CT is usually connected to the neutral of a star connected transformer. for balanced condition the current through neutral is zero.but if any unbalance occurs such as a ground fault, then there will be specific magnitude for neutral current.hence the neutral CT senses this current and a small current according to its ratio will be send to its protection relay thereby activating the relay.a neutral CT is used mainly for protection.
