How will you test a report whether it is returning the correct results or not? in WebXIR2

I think we can do data validation test. Checking the summary results of the reports by writing
SQL query against database.
checking the columns, fields, alignments, report look etc. satisfying the report required
specs.
Correct me if i am wrong
