Earthing means connecting star terminal or neutral terminal of 3 phase sytem to earth directly or through resistance in case of generator & reactance in case of motor. These are used fo transformer, generator, motor, etc.

Grounding means connecting ground terminal of 3 phase sytem to earth or connecting body of equipment to earth. These are used for 3 phase system, transmission line & for protection from lightening etc.
