Whenever holding a JAD session, make sure that you stick to the agenda, if at all there is any conflict between the members, assign a decision maker to both business user side and tech side and mark the topic as a follow up.

When there is a conflict during a JAD session, i would try to narrow down the scope of the conflict, usually it would be about a specific requirement or a part of the business process flow. I would request the participants to "park" the conflict point and ask them to proceed as per the agenda. Towards, the end of the session, may be, we would have more clarity which would help resolve the conflict, else i would facilitate a seperate session for the parked items and i would also seek the intervention of my project manager which would help in solving the problem.
