OCP certification would certainly help to establish your thorough knowldege and understanding of the Oracle database platform.

This body of knowldege will also help you during technical interviews.
If you are aiming for the DBA role, then Java does not have to be your priority.
Knowledge of or certification in ETL process and tools would serve you better.
You can download and use open source tools to test them out.

Also you need to have a good foundation in UNIX/LINUX operating systems, shell scripting, batch processes etc, as Oracle commonly runs on these platforms.

Bottom line - acquire knowledge and skill in and around the role that you would be taking up in the real world, instead of picking up technologies that are not critical to your role that you are targeting.

As concerns jobs, you need to focus on academic projects that involve or engage you in duties that you would perform in the real world.

For example, installing and administrating Oracle database in your campus or college.
Helping other students with their database related assignments.

Testing out the import/export, data pump utilities. Taking backups, performing recovery operations, interviewing a real DBA and what daily duties he/she performs.

Taking Oracle's scenerio based turorials (they are free on the OTN website).
These are some of the steps you can take to build-up your confidence and skill set and have greater chances of being absorbed into an actual role, maybe at a junior level.
