What is the difference between Filter and External Filter stages?

Filter is used to pass the records basing on some condition.We will have multiple where conditions to specify.We can send to different output links

External filter is used to execute commands of unix.You can give the commands in the specified box with the corresponding arguements.

FILTER EXTERNAL FILTER
Filters based on some condition datastage level filter------ Uses UNIX commands to filter
Can have optional reject link---------------------------------- No reject link
Can have multiple conditions ,can be route to diff trg------- No option for that
