Alpha testing is done by development team itself to make sure that the developed product is ready for testing. If they find somthing they fix it and make it available for testing to Testers who by be inhouse or third party.
Alpha testing - testing of an application when development is nearing completion; minor design changes may still be made as a result of such testing. Typically done by end-users or others not by programmers or testers. Beta testing - testing when development and testing are essentially completed and final bugs and problems need to be found before final release. Typically done by end-users or others not by programmers or testers.

It's a form of internal acceptance testing which will do before application goes to beta testing this can be done by below people at comany area ( programmers area)
-- Client -- Testing team
Beta Testing:
It can be tested after application passes from alpha testing it can be done out side of the company ( out of programmers) can done by below people.
-- All public ( to know more bugs) -- Real time users -- Client -- End users
