These days when we talk abt database we are mainly talking about 2 databases  namely :

  1. Analytical Database

  2. Operational Database

Analytical Database : Like OLTP( On Line Analytical Processing) are primarily static, read only database which store historical and archived data for analysis.

 

Operational Database : Like OLTP( On Line Transaction Processing), on the other hand, are used to manage more dynamic bits of data. These types of databases allow you to do more than simply view archived data. Operational databases allow you to modify that data (add, change or delete data).
