Can I use checkpoints in functions?

of course make sure that the Function is called frm the relevant script that has the Object on which the CheckPoint is stated

Yes..

But make sure that the Objects Info is present in the Object Repository and also the function is calling in the script where the Onjects info is stored

When checkpoint is issued all the dirty blocks are written to the datafiles (disk).
