The ODS(Operational Data Store)  is a subject-oriented, integrated, frequently augmented store of detailed data in the enterprise data warehouse. In ODS only reseant data will store.

OLTP Systems : Type I + ER Modelling

ODS : Type II + ER Modelling

DWH : Type II + Dimensional modelling

People use ODS as a alternative to DWH ofcourse there is a lot of difference and it doesnt support analysis on your bussiness like OLTP becasue of ER Modelling..

It is designed to support Operational Monitoring. It is subject oriented,integrated database which holds the current,detailed data.
data here is volatile
