Whats the difference between ISO certification and CMM certification?

I am surprised no one answered. This shows how deep we are into quality standards n bench marking.

Well, ISO and CMM are both models for Quality Management. A model lays down a bench mark. One thing to remember, by "Qualtiy Management " we must know that it is organizational improvement and not just "product qualtiy" (which is common perspective.

A quality model covers: Product Qualtiy, Process Quality and Human Resource

Now back to the question. ISO is a model proposed by International Organization for Standardization. (IOS). CMM is a model proposed by Software Engineering Institute (SEI)

ISO gives a lot of freedom. It mainly ensures that everything is pre planned and documented. (despite that fact that total documentation involved is 30% of the total work)
Secondly, ISO says to first write what you plan to do (define process of your choice) and then it enforces to follow the process whcih you suggested. Later, if you find problem then you can furhter document the problem, analyse it and formulate new strategy by refining the process. Once done, you should follow the updated process.

CMM, however is a bit different. It categorises QMS in 5 levels. It elaborates the process to the fullest. These are called maturity levels.

If your company is NOT quality concious at all, it is at level 0
If your company is quality concious, by inspecting the product before it is delivered to client - it is at level 1

In case of software, if your company is  performing (and documenting and constantly improving in): Requirements Management,  Software Configuration Management, SPP,  SPTO and SQA in addition to the above artifacts then it is at level 2

In case of software, if your company is  performing (and documenting and constantly improving in): DAR, IC, ISM, OPD, OPF, PR, RSKM, SPE and TP in addition to the above artifacts then it is at level 3

In case of software, if your company is  performing (and documenting and constantly improving in): SMP in addition to the above artifacts then it is at level 4

In case of software, if your company is  performing (and documenting and constantly improving in): CAR, OID and PAR in addition to the above artifacts then it is at level 5

aaaah, any more questions? this is my area so i would love to answer any more questions related to QMS

Hi,

ISO is a Standard.

CMMi is a Frame work.

All the clauses in the standards shall be followed by the companies who are registered for ISO.

CMMi is  a framework, where applicable practices can be implemented from the framework.

ISO 9001,9002 and 9003 standards are concerned with quality systems that are assessed by outside auditors. ISO 9001 contains all the requirements which an organization must address within their Quality Management System (QMS) if they wish to be certified against their standard. It is mainly written by a committee designed for any type of organization.

Capability Maturity Model’, developed by the SEI. It’s a model of 5 levels of organizational ‘maturity’ that determine effectiveness in delivering quality software.

For certification in QA, there is only one certification named ISQTB.
It further include advance level too.
You can do ISQTB for certification in QA.
