What is the difference between User Identification and Authentication?

RE: What is the difference between User Identification...

User Identification: In virtue of Data base server Identification tries to
find whether you are registered user in the database or not. It applies to whole
database server.


Authentication: It applies for special Privileges for a user in the database.
Like whether a user is authenticated to run system procedures or not. Or whether
he is authenticated to create new users or not.
