Layered structure of an operating system:

LAYERS

User
User Interface Program / Application Program
System Services and File System
Input and Output Management
User Console
Memory Management
Processor Scheduling
System Hardware

Layered Operating system is nothing but a structuring technique.
In Layered Operating System the functional components are arranged as modules one above the other similar to layers also referred to as hierarchy of layers.
These layered modules interact with one another albit with layers that are lower than the interacting module.
