What is the difference between PLC and DCS?

PLC means Programmable Logic Controller, which can be used to control one particluar control system such as a boiler or a injection system.
but DCS is Distributed control syetem, which is used to monitor and control the total process plant. in DCS we have no of controllers connected to a single monitoring system.

...........not necessarily to a single Monitoring system in DCS.

Generally we have multiusers like operator, maintenance engineer, application engineer, system engineer, administrator etc in a big process plant.  An operator
will not have the similar rights as the adminstrator or engineers have. So, we may need a number of monitoring systems at different areas of a plant with different rights.
