Simple,
Slice the cake along half its height, parallel to the ground.

i) given to us is a rectangular cake.. so we are going to cut a piece from that cake in such a way that the remaining portion of the cake is a square.. so after a piece is cut out we have the cake in the shape of a square.. now we can cut it into two equal halves either horizontally or vertically(since it is a square , all sides are equal..)..

(ii) to remove two pieces from the cake, we have to cut the cake in such a manner that the remaining portion is in the shape of a square and the rest is same  as in (i)...

This is also a possibility the cake will look like when we cut it with a side orientation...

so what will be the solution for this?
I guess cutting it along its diagonal.....(ie. from top left to bottom right)

Consider a rectangular cake (obviously)
lets say length=x breadth=y

Make an outline of x-2 & y-2
Now cut off two rectangles from the outlined surface...simply cut them into 2 halves

Now you are left with a big rectangular hole without changing the actual length and breadth of the cake...
Now cut the cake into 2 equal portions with one straight swipe....& there you have it!
