Well in my opinion
Suppose cost price=100
He got 20%gain means selling price=120
If sold thrice of actual price=3*100=300
Thus would have gained 200%

its asked that--- if sold for "THRICE THE PRICE" but not as "THRICE THE PRICE WITH PREVIOUS PROFIT PERCENT ADDED".........so, the ans is exactly --- 200%

Assume the original price is 100 Rs. The gain is 20 Rs (20%).
If sold thrice the price 3*100=300 then gain is 200 Rs (300-100) so the gain%=200
