Os is in short for operating systems - A software to interface between the end user and the hardware. A software is normally divided into layered components to undertake various tasks at their levels. Its job is to hide all complexity involved from the end user.

GUI stands for Graphical user interface - Earlier OS didnt have a GUI - Fox example the legacy OS MS DOs - While later OS like Windows ar famous for their GUI. The most recent OS in development is Windows Vista after older Windows,Solaris,Linux and many other OS.

Hi all,I would like to give an explanation regarding this.priorly there are 2 types of OS: viz Single-User Operating Systems and Multi-user Operating systems. Single-User are those which can be used for stand-alone systems, eg: DOS. Multi-user user OS are those which have the capability to share data to more than on user .eg: Windows. After the Client/Server architecture came into existence, There comes the necessity of an OS which can as a Server. These are Server OS. eg: Win NT, Windows 2000 Server and so on.And we have different range of Server OS which types of OS clients. However that depends on the OS Vendor.ThanQSatish Kumar Vemula

Two types of operating systems are there viz. single user and multiuser. GUI stands for Graphical User Interface. Microsoft Windows 98, Windows XP and Vista will come in GUI. Non-GUI will not support graphics, it is text-based. MS DOS is an example for Non-GUI operating system.

There are several types of Operating System (OS), such as
Windows 98, 2000, XP
Linux
Unix
etc.

OS is also be called as a software, which behaves as a platform for other softwares to run.

GUI graphical user interface is nothin but only we can say:
"What we see is what we do OR what we do is what we see"

GUI such as, Windows XP, in which there are many labels,or dropdownbox which we can see and can understand what actually we have to do.  On the other hand, NON-GUI is something where we cannot see, actually what is happening everything can be done by using commands, for example Unix, in which we must have knowledge of commands.
