There is an easy formula

one side painted [(x-2)^2]*6

two side painted [x-2]*12

three side painted 8(always) (A cube has 8 corners)

unpainted (x-2)^3

6^3 216

1 side painted 96

2 48

3 8

unpainted 64

total 216
