there r some layers in tcp/ip protocol suite

application layer-telnet,rlogin,snmp,smtp,ftp,tftp

transport layer-tcp,udp

network layer-ip,icmp,igmp

link layer-device driver,interface card

there are so many types of protocol which supports a diffrent layers of TCP/IP protocol.

1. internet layer -IP,IGMP,ICMP,ARP,RARP

2.Transport Layer - TCP,UDP

3.Application Layer -FTP,SNMP,SMTP,Telnet,TFTP,DNS,HTTP.

here TCP is a Connection oriented protocol and UDP is a connection less protocol.the Full form of the above protocol are given below.

1.IP - Internet Protocol

2.IGMP - Internet Groups Message Protocol

3.ICMP - Internet Control Message Protocol

4.ARP - Address Resolution Protocol

5.RARP - Reverse Address Resolution Protocol.

FTP -File Transfer Protocol.

Their are various type of protocols exactly no person can tell u all the names of protocols.various types of protocols like http,ftp,smtp,nntp,imap,ospf,udp,utp etc..The function of protocols is to provide various type of services which are needed by computer.Basically protocols are languages of computer which computer understands.

based on the type of networks,there can be 2 types of protocols,connection oriented protocol which is tcp and connectionless oriented protocol which udp.

2. TCP; transmission control protocol
3. IP; internet protocol
4. FTP; file transfer protocol
5. SMTP; simple mail transfer protocol
6. RTP; remote transfer protocol
