A person, who decided to go to weekend trip should not exceed 8 hours driving in a day.  Average speed of forward journey is 40 m/h. Due to traffic in Sundays, the return journey average speed is 30 m/h. How far he can select a picnic spot?
a) 120 miles
b) Between 120 and 140 miles
c) 160 miles

the max distance is 137... he cannot choose a distance of 138 or 139 miles..
so to the most positive side,the ans is 120miles

solution--- t1 time for forword journey. t2 time 4 return journey. t t1 + t2 8hrs; x destination; t1 + t2 x / 40 + x / 30 8; x( 7/120 ) 8; x 8*120/ 7 137 milesie answer is(b) if u hav any question mail me at hardeep.cusat@gmail.com 4 getting answer.

it has to be (a)as the max distance comes out to be 137.14

let t1 be the time taken for forward journey and t2 be for returning journey.

distance speed*time

so d1 40t1

d2 30t2

since distance is same d1 d2

so 40t1 30t2 and t1+ t2 8 solving thease two equation we will be having ans between 120 and 140 miles

This person can travel 8 hours a day. He can travel up to 240m. So he can return on Sunday also.
