Actually, Mercury Quality Center is a topped up version of Mercury Test Director. If you check upon the version numbers of the tools (Go to Help>About), you will find that Mercury Test Director is version 8.0 and Mercury Quality Center starts with 8.2 itself.

Hi,

Actually Mercury Quality Center is a top on version of Test director, from there u can directly launch ur Automated script Run/modify provided the Automated tool is open.

Quality Center is powered by Test Director. Thats how Mercury markets QC. I have used both the tools. The main difference I could find is drastic change in GUI. Also in QC you have an extra tab called Dashboard which is used to run different types of reports, etc.

Rest all the features are same.

Look and feel of the GUI is primarily the difference.  There are also some new functionality the lets the test manager map requirements, tests, and defects more deeper than before if they wish it.  Defects will be associated for one to many.
