I feel its better not to speak more about ur family and background. We shud always try to keep it precise say about 1 or 2 mins. We should try to speak about our achievments(if any) and anything that impresses the interviewer instead of schoolin, college, and family background.

Its better to tell about the achievements in the education field or with the previous employer rather than telling about the family background or academic background. In addition to this the reply should be crisp and fits to the point.

Its better to not focus on family background. U shpuld focus on urself i.e ur experience, little description abiut ur job responsibilities, stregnths etc and finally conclude that question with y u r for that intervie.RegardsHasini

When a HR poses a question of this sort, u need to tell them briefly about your self and your family background. It is basically going through your profile verbally. This also help in judging your communication skill.
