A can swim & cross 50m(the length of swimming pool) in 2 min. B can swim & cross 50m in 2min 15sec. Every time when they meet a bell gong is struck. For 2000m how many bell sounds might be produced?

2000/50m=40times they crossed the pool

while travelling 4 times a will cross in the pool in 8  min

and b can travel in 9 min

so for 40 times it is 36

series of distance covered at time when gong rings is

53+106+159..........+(last term <2000)

now the last term is given by hit and trial method taking the max no. of terms in the series as 40

tn== 53+(40-1) *53=2120 it is not possible
similarly not for 39,38
but for 37

tn== 53+(37-1) *53=1961 it is possible
hence the answer is 37

the answer will be 35.
because in every loop the difference produce between this two is 6.25 meters.
so there are 2000/50= 40 loops.
so there total difference produce will be 40*6.25 = 250 meters.
jst subtract this from total 2000 - 250 = 1750
hence the bell sound produced = 1750 / 50 = 35. (answer)
