How do you deal with environments that are hostile to quality change efforts?

Most important is to get buy-in from management. If they don't support quality then you may want to go elsewhere.Other things that help though:1) Make it clear that you don't create bugs you just report them. They were allready there ...and if you don't find them the customer will.2) Try to set expectations up front with test entry criteria smoke tests or BVTs etc.3) Just the facts ...don't get emotional just state your case and leave it at that.4) Try to get a checklist or certification process in place that requires a certain level of stability before moving to the next phase of the SDLC. Try to get an escalation process in place that is triggered by allready agreed upon criteria.5) Be nice ...and start off by saying something positive. Nobody likes to hear that their baby is ugly.6) Focus on the problem as the enemy ...to take the focus off you as the enemy.Hope this helps!
