In a city the following survey was done and the data input is as follows
1/3 people don’t use powder
2/5 don’t use liquid
427 use both liquid and powder
1/5 don’t use both
Find the total no of people who were surveyed.

let x be the total number of people surveyed.1/3x + 2/5x - 1/5x + 427 = xx = 915

let total no of people be xpeople who donot use powder is given to be d(p) x/3 liquid is d(l) 2x/5 people who use powder and liquid are say s(p * l) 427 note: as this is a set theory problem and i cant represent symbols of intersection iam using symbols u for union * for intersection we have a formula in set theory p(aub) p(a)+p(b)-p(a*b) since here we are given those who do not use liquid and powder d(p*l) x/5)d(pul) d(p)+d(l)-d(p*l)using this we get d(pul) 8x/15 and after finding this we add those who use powder and liquid to those whodo not use powder and liquid ie d(p*l) and s(p*l)d(p*l)+s(p*l)-d(pul) 427x+x/5-8x/5equate the abov expression to x and find x which is required total no of people surveyed
