What is project based testing and product based testing

1. Project is done for specific clients of your company. For this some of the testing may be done at client's side. Product is not done for a single client and it is released as a product of the company.

2. Project is more specific for a particular business requirement where as product is more generic.

3. Typically application is supported on single platform, the one that target organization has.  For products it's variety of OS, hardware etc, you must have see typically product matrix. Hence it is necessary to test the product on all the combinations.

Added to his explanation I would like to add some more as follows,

Once the project is delivered , the support for the future issues will not be comes to the company who developed. But whereas in product, they will have a SLA(Service Level Agreement) for the support related activities.
